Pasta Dinners


The Cross Country team has many years now, enjoyed the tradition of having a potluck pasta dinner the night before each race. Senior runners are asked to host these dinners.  Many runners attend and it is a great team building evening.  It also helps with carb loading prior to race day. It is an optional activity, depending on school work and other obligations. Parents and siblings are invited to attend also, as it is a good way to get to know other families. Typically we get 15 – 20 parents at any pasta dinner.

Dinner starts at 6:30 and everyone is on their way by 8:00 p.m. (It is usually a school night.) An email will go out once a week to let you know what your runner is assigned to bring as well as who is hosting and directions to their home.

For each dinner, runners are assigned a dish to bring, which should serve 8. We serve fruit and salads, pasta/pizza, breads, and desserts. The team supplies the forks, spoons, napkins, plates, etc. for the pasta dinners. Please bring what you are assigned. A very successful category added a few years ago was healthy team snacks for the following day’s race.

Here’s an example of how the Pasta Dinner food assignments might be divided. The assignments change each week.  Last name starting with:

A-B       Healthy Snack for Race Day**
C-K       Pasta or Pizza
L-Re      Salad, Veggies or Fruit
Ro-Z      Dessert
**Healthy snacks need to be individually packaged and might include things like granola bars, trail mix, crackers, pretzels, fruit snacks, etc.
