By Sam Wexler
The second week of the season saw the Coyotes head northwest to Lyons on a chilly Saturday morning for the St. Vrain Invitational. St. Vrain allows 10 runners to suit up for their varsity races. This gives runners on the cusp of making varsity, a chance to run against the best.

The varsity girls were led by Audrey Lookner with her 19th place in 19:20.  Audrey was followed closely by Hailey Leader in 21st, Liz Hogan in 31st, Anna Wexler in 44th, and Sam Wexler in 48th. The top 5 scored well enough to place 4th overall. Abby Hein finished in 64th place, Libby Moore in 67th, Brooke Forsythe in 80th, Cora Isaacson in 93rd, and Ginger Harrington 94th rounding out the varsity coyotes. Quinn McConnell won the race in 18:15 and Mountain Vista won the team race with 84 points.

The varsity boys had the most exciting race of the day, finishing second to the 4 time defending State Champion, Mountain Vista team by only one point. Isaac Green and Charlie Perry led the team with their 1st and 4th place finishes in 15:49 and 15:51 respectively. Zach Litoff in 13th, Greg Hibl in 23rd, and Will Dixon in 31st rounded out the scoring for the boys giving them a score of 72. Brandon Wallace and Declan Stone-Murphy finished sixth and seventh for the coyotes with their 52nd and 67th place finishes. The Boy’s JV race was led by a powerful performance by Isaac Russo, running a 17:16 and winning by over 35 seconds. Isaac’s time was so impressive, he would have finished in the top 40 of the Varsity race! Russo was followed by Logan Weber in 13th, Avery Conaghan in 18th, Cayce Reese in 20th, and Trevor Senior in 21st rounded out the top 5 scorers. The boy’s team score put them in 3rd place overall.
